One of the community’s longest continuous businesses is under new ownership this week. A local veterinarian has purchased the practice of the retiring Dr. I.C. Keeney.

Under a transaction effective Monday, Dr. Bryan Buttress has acquired Texas County Veterinary Clinic, which has offices in Houston and Summersville. Buttress said the clinic will be a mixed animal practice, specializing in both small and large animals.

Buttress has been associated with Taylor Veterinary Clinic since his graduation from veterinary school at Oklahoma State in 2002. In 1998, Buttress earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from the institution.

Buttress will be joined in the practice by Dr. Steven Root, who has been employed there for about 10 years. Keeney will be available to assist at the practice when needed.

Keeney’s retirement ends a 56-year career. Keeney returned home after graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia and began a successful career that brought him to farms throughout the county. In 2008, Keeney was recognized with the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Keeney said Monday that he and his wife, Margaret, plan to travel.

Buttress is married to the former Jeannine Ross, who was raised in the Summersville area. They have two children, Riley, 2 1/2; and Colton, 2 1/2 months.
