A Plato man was killed late Friday night when his vehicle ran off Highway 17 north of Houston and struck a tree.
Dead is Russell J. Kane, 26, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Texas County Coroner Thomas Whittaker. Kane was traveling northbound in a 2006 Chevrolet when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway about nine miles north of Houston.
It is the 39th fatality in the Troop G area – compared to 41 at the same time a year ago.
