Doyle Wayne Martin, 75, of Houston, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009.

He was born in 1933 in Oxford, Ark., son of Vernon “Cap” and Maybelle Lester Martin.

He was raised in Oxford, Ark., and later attended the University of Arkansas, where he earned his bachelor of science. He earned his master’s degree from Arkansas State University and also attended the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

He joined Air Force and served during the Korean conflict. He became a school teacher and was a junior high principal. He finished his career as assistant superintendent in the Malden school district. After retiring, he and his wife, Mary, moved to Houston.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his mother, Maybelle; a brother, Billy James Martin; a daughter, KeeAnna Martin Falterman; a son, Bryan “Skipper” Jones; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were Sunday, Sept. 6, at Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne, Ark., with Bobby Coleman officiating. Burial was in Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne, Ark.
