A 2002 Houston High School graduate will serve as director of volleyball operations this season at Texas Tech.
Loran Ichord Richardson will be in charge of recruiting, coordinating travel, game day activities and the overall operation of the Red Raiders’ volleyball program. She is working under coach Trish Knight, who she played for from 2002-’04 at Missouri State University-West Plains. Knight was named Texas Tech’s new coach in January.
Richardson, who last week arrived in Lubbock, Texas, with her husband, Jeff, will be pursuing her master’s in higher education while serving her new position.
“I am really excited for this opportunity and the chance to be a part of the Big 12 Conference,” Richardson said. “I am really thankful to Trish for bringing me on as a part of her program. This will be a great learning experience, and I know that God has placed me here for a reason. I just feel really blessed to be a part of Texas Tech volleyball.”
Richardson was named a distinguished academic all-american in 2003 as MSU-West Plains finished fifth in the nation. She earned similar honors in 2006 when she was selected an all-america scholar athlete while playing basketball at Central Methodist.
After graduating, she was head volleyball coach at Clinton High School from 2006-’08 before serving one year as a graduate assistant at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn.
The Red Raiders play close to Richardson’s hometown when they travel to Columbia on Oct. 10 to face Missouri. Richardson said she hopes friends from Houston and West Plains can make it.
