Drury University announced a new four-credit course last week that will be offered at its Cabool campus.

‘Biology of lakes and streams’ is perfect for biology majors or any student who wishes to learn more about Missouri’s lakes and streams, Drury officials said. Emphasis will be on the structural morphology, habitats, flora and fauna and the physical, geographical and biological characteristics of these bodies of fresh water.

Classes will meet at 4:20 p.m. each Tuesday beginning Sept. 1, and there will be scheduled field studies throughout the semester that will include laboratory and field exercises on identification, sampling methods and preparation of study specimens. Missouri’s waterways are a unique state treasure, and this course will help students gain a deeper understanding of how they function and the important role that they play, Drury said.

The instructor of the class, Brad Hadley, is an agent with the Missouri Department of Conservation. In 2008, Hadley was selected as Missouri’s conservation agent of the year.

Fall registration is under way at the Cabool campus. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 31, and run for 16 weeks. Financial aid assistance is available for students who meet qualification requirements. Persons wanting additional information can call 417-962-5314 or email chicks@drury.edu.
