Velta Lorrine McGuyre Stroder, 75, died Monday, July 6, 2009.
She was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Van Buren, Ark., daughter of William and Alice Vail McGuyre. She and Kenneth E. Stroder Sr. were married Feb. 14, 1951, in Osceola, Ark.
She was a sharecropper’s daughter and after marrying her childhood friend, she traveled the world and raised six children as a soldier’s wife for 20 years.
She served and prepared meals at diners and truck stops across the country. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and dolls for friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James McGuyre and William McGuyre; and a grandson.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of the home; six children, Kenneth E. Stroder Jr. and Dennis W. Stroder of Elkhart, Ind., Mary A. Stroder and Jerry L. Stroder of Salem and John Stroder and Sheila L. Damron of Licking; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Elva Franks, Shirley Jenkins and Mary McGuyre of Elkhart, Ind., Bobbie Kersey of Mississippi and Louella Bowen of Goshen, Ind.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Fox Funeral Home Chapel. Services are 10 a.m. Friday, July 10, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Miller officiating. Burial will be in Boone Creek Cemetery.
