The Houston board of education opened bids for the upcoming school year and reviewed summer maintenance projects during a meeting Monday night.
Bread and related products for the food service program were accepted from Sara Lee Bakery Group. Stallcup Pest Control was hired for the 2009-’10 year. Milk bids were rejected, and a rebidding process will occur.
The board also reviewed a list of proposed summer maintenance projects. A final decision will come at a June 22 meeting as to whether to spend beyond the already budgeted amount for the work. Some projects, such as the renovation of the high school cafeteria, are under way as part of the existing budget document.
In other matters, members:
-Hired Amanda Tannehill to teach fifth grade and Ryan Warnol will have high school English duties.
-Approved a dual sports policy, which states a student cannot participate in two team sports simultaneously.
-Made changes in the district’s A+ program policy to raise the participation goal and the change the frequency of reporting data from quarterly to per semester. The old participation goal of 45 percent has been surpassed. A new goal of 50 percent is in place.
