Across the county groups will be busy creating a trash-free environment by participating in the No MOre Trash! Bash 2009, during April. This month-long event occurs annually and is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation and Missouri Department of Conservation.
According to MoDOT Adopt-A-Highway and No MOre Trash! Bash Coordinator Shelly Cauldwell, getting involved is easy. Cauldwell can be reached by calling the MoDOT Customer Service Center at 888-ASK MoDOT (275-6636). MoDOT will provide vests, bags and safety information to those interested in participating in the No MOre Trash Bash! Report your activity and receive a free No More Trash! Bash 2009 lapel pin for each participant.
“Participating in the bash is a great way to decide if regular participation in the MoDOT Adopt-A-Highway program is right for you,” she explained. “Our adopters range from church and civic groups, families, individuals who form a group in memory of someone, businesses and more.
“Signs are posted at either end of each adoption site to help bring recognition to the group for their volunteer work. Four trash pick ups per year are required and all MoDOT asks is that activity is reported so we can keep track and dispatch a crew to retrieve the bags left along the roadside.”
