Jessie R. Young, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at her home.

She was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Salem, daughter of Benjamin and Viola McGuire. She and Cecil E. Young were married in 1938.

She lived in Dent County and worked at the courthouse until she was 17 years old. She then worked for Eli & Walker.

She moved to St. Louis upon her husband’s discharge from the Navy. She worked at AB Chance for five years and Hunter Engineering as mail and shipping clerk for 15 years.

She returned to Licking in 1973 when her husband became disabled. She purchased and ran the Travel Inn Caf/ – now the Coffee Pot.

Upon selling the caf/, she worked seven years for Rawlings before retiring in 1982. She performed housekeeping duties for many families while retired until an automobile accident no longer permitted her to work.

She publicly confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was received into full membership of Licking Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sons, Robert Sidney and Garry R. Young; a sister, Bessie Prass; and a grandson.

Survivors include two daughters, Glenna M. Speer of Wentzville, and Carol S. Hall of Licking; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Services were Tuesday, March 3, at Fox Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Dodson officiating. Burial was in Shafer Cemetery.
