Vernon Lee Floyd, 65, son of Udell and Dorothy Floyd, was born April 16, 1943, near Montauk. He died July 24, 2008

A resident of Springfield, he formerly lived at Licking, where he co-owned and operated Floyd Service Station with his brother for 10 years. He lived at Moberly and Fulton, working for Cameron Mutual Insurance.

Mr. Floyd was a secretary, manager and agent for Farmers and Laborers Insurance of Audrian County for 31 years. He held offices in the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and served one term as president.

Insurance was not just a job but a major part of his life. He was on call at all hours of the day and night and served his clientele in many ways: climbing on roofs, going into the fields, being there for them after fires and seeing to their needs.

He served God in his local church, attending regularly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Floyd.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce; sons, Greg Floyd of Fredericksburg, Va., and Kenny Floyd of Springfield; six sisters, Joyce Crum, Reggia Ward, Betty Quick, Dorotha “Dot” Pursifull and Patricia “Pat” Buckner of Licking and Carolyn Bell of Houston; on brother, Leonard Floyd of Salem; and five grandchildren.

Services were July 27 at the Boone Creek Baptist Church with Dr. James Miller officiating under the direction of Fox Funeral Home of Licking.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Center in Columbia or the Boone Creek Baptist Church.
