Safe Sitter, a medically accurate baby-sitting course for boys and girls, will be taught two times this summer at Texas County Memorial Hospital. Classes will be from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday, July 11 and Aug. 8.
Developed by a pediatrician, the students learn through discussion, practice and role play about a wide variety of topics, including child care techniques, safety precautions, rescue breathing and care of a choking infant or child, recognizing and responding to emergency situations and managing common problem behaviors.
A $25 fee covers the cost of materials. Scholarships may be available for those meeting certain criteria. Participants should bring a sack lunch. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Parents and family members are invited to attend a “graduation” ceremony for class participants at 3:30 p.m. the day of the class.
Pre-registration is required; the class size is limited. Participants in the class must pre-register for first class by July 3 and the second by Aug. 1.
