Charles Arthur “Art” Lewis, 78, oldest son of Johnnie Jessie and Mildred Poe Lewis, was born June 20, 1929, at Hazelton. He died May 5, 2008, at Licking Park Manor in Licking.
Mr. Lewis was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.
After his military discharge, he met and married Jean O’Neil. They lived in California until 1960, when he relocated his family to Missouri, living in the Licking and St. Louis areas. He worked for General Motors in St. Louis, retiring in 1987.
He had been a resident of Licking Residential Care and Licking Park Manor for the last year due to health conditions.
Mr. Lewis enjoyed working on cars and trucks. He was a “fix-it” man who liked to “piddle with stuff.” He liked fishing, telling stories and visiting with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; an infant son; one brother, Edgar; a sister, Shirley Chapman; and a grandson.
Surviving are three sons, Jerry and Larry of Licking and Ricky Dean of Potosi; one sister, Francis Thompson of Licking; two brothers, Eugene of Licking and Arnold of Winfield; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services were May 8 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel in Licking with Everett Perkins officiating. Burial was in the Craddock Cemetery.
