Mamie L. Noirfalise, 95, daughter of James Garfield Broughton and Myrtle Iva Dillard Broughton, was born July 29, 1912, at Hatfield, Izard County, Ark. She died March 24, 2008, at Houston.

The family moved in 1927 from Wichita, Kan., to a farm along the Big Piney River. After farming, she moved to Licking in 1937 with her parents and brother. They opened the Log Cabin Store and Gas Station and rented small log cabins to overnight travelers.

Mrs. Noirfalise graduated from beautician college and operated businesses in Springfield, St. Louis, Mansfield and other cities.

She was a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Humane Society. She dearly loved her pets – dogs and cats – throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold F. Noirfalise; brother, Elby Broughton; and son, James D. Strong.

Surviving are three grandchildren, Randy Strong, Michelle Doran and Melissa Merical, eight great-grandchildren and friends, Jesse Young and Carol Hall of Licking.

Services were March 31 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Dodson officiating.
