Sales taxes collected by Texas County merchants dipped significantly during the latest monthly distribution and finished down for the quarter, according to the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The total for the month from a half-cent sales was $77,246, which is a decrease of $7,264 from a year ago. For the quarter, $239,444 was collected. That’s down $5,577 for the quarter – or about 2.3 percent.
The county also has two half-cent sales taxes earmarked for debt repayment on the county justice center and general operations. Each netted about $77,200, which was down about $6,867 from a year ago.
The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity. The City of Houston managed to buck the trend. Its figures were flat, but up slightly. [See story elsewhere].
