The Houston tennis team swept all six singles matches Monday en route to an easy 7-2 victory against visiting Mountain View-Liberty.
William Jones won his match 8-0, and Jonathan Page and Ashton Kell each won 8-2.
Houston’s lone doubles win was a 9-8 (7-2) victory by Andrew Finn and Emily Stubbs.
The Tigers earned another 7-2 victory last Wednesday at Willow Springs by sweeping the singles matches.
Jones, Andrew Finn and Samantha Jones each won 8-2. Dalton Wilson won his match 8-1.
The doubles team of Wilson and Skyler Ward won 8-0.
The previous day at the West Plains Invitational, Page advanced to the championship match with 8-0 and 8-4 victories. He lost 8-1 in the final.
After two close losses, Jeff Stilley finished seventh in singles play with an 8-0 victory.
William Jones and Kell finished sixth in doubles. Finn and Stubbs were seventh.
The invitational included players from Rolla, Springfield Parkview, Springfield Hillcrest and Salem.
“Jonathan Page played extremely well to take second place,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “We had our opportunities to win a few matches but couldn’t close the deal.”
Page had Houston’s lone victory last Tuesday in an 8-1 loss at Rolla. Page won his match 8-3.
JV TENNIS: Sarah Pierce and Erica Keeney won their doubles match 6-2 Monday against Liberty. Danielle Pounds and Kelsi Adey won 6-3.
“It was good to see some of our junior varsity kids doing positive things,” Jordan said.
Last Wednesday at Willow Springs, Ward and Lainey Cooper each won their JV singles matches 8-0.
