Houston police are investigating the theft of checks from a local residence.
Officers said the checks were missing from the Newton U. “Sonny” Crawford residence at 1202 John St.
Checks totaling $230 have been passed at local businesses. Police have a suspect. The incident was reported Feb. 27.
In other matters, officers:
-Cited Edith A. Wen, 26, of Houston, with disobeying an electric signal by failing to stop on March 2.
-Charged Shayleen N. Barton, 23, of 6525 Lilly Road, with disobeying an electric signal by failing to stop on March 8.
-Were called to 610 N. Second, where Lou D. Kirkman, 82, was found dead of natural causes on March 4.
-Arrested Christal N. Spencer, 22, of 8453 Mineral Drive, with failure to appear on a speeding charge. She was unable to post the $500 bond and was incarcerated in the Texas County Jail on March 9.
