The City of Houston will compete Oct. 22 for honors in the Missouri Community Betterment Conference in Jefferson City. As a past winner in the annual event, Houston earlier submitted a project book and judges made an on-site visit last month.
Houston is competing against communities of similar size. They are: Albany, Mansfield, Elsberry, Cabool, Mountain View, Fayette and Arcadia Valley.
More than 350 representatives from communities across the state will attend the 44th annual conference. Secretary of State Robin Carnahan will present the community and youth group awards at a banquet that evening.
Community volunteers will be recognized for their efforts to promote economic development and the quality of life for residents.
Several speakers will present programs on community and economic development.
