The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A deputy was dispatched Aug. 17 regarding a domestic dispute at a Highway Z residence at Houston.
A 73-year-old man there told the officer his 15-year-old stepson had hit him in the face. The man said he didn’t want to press charges, but wanted the boy to go to his father’s house.
The officer spoke with the boy and he admitted to hitting his stepdad, and said he also picked him up and slammed him onto the porch. The boy agreed to go to his father’s house.
•On Aug. 9, a deputy investigated a burglary at a Kitchem Drive residence at Licking.
The officer spoke with a woman and boy who both live there and they said several items with a total value of $3,400 had been stolen. The deputy observed damage to the front door of the home, and that every room inside had been ransacked.
A 52-year-old Licking woman and a 34-year-old Salem woman are suspects, and probable cause statements were sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges against them.
•Authorities are investigating the theft of red and white Ford diesel truck, 25-foot Pro Stock trailer and Honda Foreman 500 ATV on property just west of Houston on Highway 17. The pickup has Gentry Construction insignia on it.
•A deputy was dispatched Aug. 19 regarding a report of a burglary at a Shafer Road residence at Licking.
A 47-year-old man and 46-year-old woman who live there told the officer several pieces of jewelry valued at $2,500 had been swiped, along with a .45 caliber pistol valued at $500. The officer observed damage to the front door and that the contents of several drawers that had been dumped onto the floor.
Officers are investigating a report of a red car that had been seen in the driveway of the home.
•A deputy was dispatched July 21 regarding a report of possible animal abuse at a Gentry Lane residence at Plato.
The officer made contact with a 63-year-old woman there who said she had witnessed a 73-year-old neighbor man and his 26-year-old son beating a dog. The officer made contact with the two men and they denied assaulting it.
The deputy observed that the dog looked healthy and had no signs of being beaten, and determined there was no reason to proceed with investigation.
