Richard LeVan “Dick” Ellis, 82, son of Claude Ellis and Maude LeVan Ellis, was born Feb. 4, 1925, at Buffalo, N.Y. He died Sept. 3, 2007, at Hospice LaGrange, Ga.
He served in the Army’s 34th Infantry Battalion during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with oak leaf clusters.
Mr. Ellis, a retired print for W.R. Grace Printing Co., and his wife, Ina Bayles Ellis, were well known in Houston for assisting in the establishment of the Texas County Food Pantry.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Houston, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Surviving are his son, Mike Ellis of LaGrange, Ga.; two daughters, Gini Calchera of Charlotte, N.C., and Sandra Becker of Sycamore, Ill.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services with military honors were Sept. 6 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at Fort Mitchell, Ala., under the direction of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary of LaGrange, Ga.
