A claims adjuster for a company representing the Houston School District said a vandalism spree last month caused an estimated $23,000 in damage.

The majority, $20,000, is building repairs, said David L. Anderson of Gallagher Bassett Services Inc. of St. Louis.

About $3,000 in contents also were damaged. The school has a $1,000 deductible. The figures are preliminary, Anderson said.

Hannah M. Ford, 18, of Raymondville; and Christopher Johnson, 19, of Houston, are charged with second-degree burglary and property damage. A third Houston boy, 13, was referred to juvenile authorities.

Widespread damage occurred after vandals plugged several sinks and turned the water on. Chemical contents of a fire extinguisher were discharged on a gym floor. An upstairs water fountain was pulled from the wall. A janitor found the mess when arriving for work on the last day of school. Entry was gained with a tug to a door that wasn’t locked properly, police said.

Anderson’s firm is seeking restitution, and that request has been forwarded to the county juvenile and prosecutor offices.
