Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Evans Funeral Home, Houston.

Margaret Lou Keeney, 85, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Mo. She was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Eldon, Mo., to Claude Apperson and Lois (Rains) Apperson in a house that her father built.

Margaret graduated from Houston High School in 1951. Shortly after graduation, she started working at Kraft Food Company Milk Receiving Plant in Houston, where she met her lifelong love, a young veterinarian fresh out of college, I. C. “Doc” Keeney.

About one year into the relationship, they were wed on Oct. 21, 1955, on Bryan Street in Houston, where they also resided for 47 years. Using this location as a veterinary clinic for several years, Margaret performed many tasks in her husband’s veterinary practice.

Holding true to the adage, behind every great man, there is a great woman, Margaret embodied the dignified feminine strengths that many today seek, but rarely find. A good and humble woman, Margaret prized her home as a place to find beauty through her decorating, and her kitchen as a place to give her love through exceptional cooking. That being said, the greatest of her strengths was her steadfast love and loyalty to her family and friends, always seeking to make their house a home.

Margaret was a woman of virtue and high merit and displayed a strong commitment to her church. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Temple Lot for 64 years. She served as secretary/treasurer for many years.

After her husband’s retirement, they found great enjoyment in traveling the world and spending time with their grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Earl Apperson.

She is survived by her children, David Keeney and wife, Carol of Houston, Mo., Douglas Keeney of Springfield, Mo., and Diane Pierce and husband, Stephen, of Houston, Mo.; as well as grandchildren, Austin Keeney, Kirk Pierce, Erica Keeney and fiancé, Drake Bell, Sarah Rees and husband, Elgin, Megan Farris and husband, Josh, Jacob Keeney and wife, Brittany; and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret modeled kindness and grace to all that knew her.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at Evans Funeral Home with Elders Albert Leighton-Floyd and Robert Oldham officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Kirk Pierce, Jacob Keeney, Austin Keeney, Josh Farris, Elgin Rees and Drake Bell.

The family respectfully suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Texas County Hospice of Care in her memory.
