On Wednesday, March 12, The Texas County Food Pantry received a donation of 10 pallets of food from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The donation was part of an annual humanitarian service offered by the LDS, whose members fast the first Sunday of each month and donate money for two meals to help fund the service.

In total 27 trucks went out, some stopping at multiple food pantries. The TCFP received 10 pallets of shelf-stable food, including applesauce and canned pears.

“Any time we can get canned fruit, it’s a win for our clients,” said Food Pantry executive director Laura Crowley.

The TCFP served over 5,000 clients with food and emergency services in 2023.

TCFP employees John Randall, left, and Frank Malchert tend to the task of off-loading pallets of donated food from a semi-truck trailer.
