The Texas County Coroner’s office answered 28 calls in March 2024, compared to 18 the previous month.
In the community, there were 24 natural deaths including alzheimer’s/dementia (5), cancer (4), heart disease (3), stroke (2), lung disease (2), liver failure (2), renal failure (2), diabetic ketoacidosis, obstructive sleep apnea, genetic disorder and sepsis.
There were two accidental deaths in the community, one due to a fall, and one due to a motor vehicle crash.
There were two offender deaths at South Central Correctional Center. One due to natural causes (heart failure) and one suicide by hanging.
