UPDATE at 4:12 p.m.: U.S. Forest Service firefighters are building containment lines around the wildfire in the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness off Highway CC east of Dora near the North Fork Recreation Area. The wildfire is expected to be contained tonight. While containment is expected Saturday night, there will still be firefighting operations in the area to ensure the fire stays contained, so trails in the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness are still closed.
The U.S. Forest Service reported late Saturday morning that a wildfire is occurring in the southern part of the Mark Twain National Forest.
It is situated off Highway CC east of Dora near the North Fork Recreation Area, where trails in the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness are now temporarily closed.
It said persons should avoid Devil’s Backbone Wilderness and the North Fork Recreation Area for safety and for all firefighters to respond.
“This is an ongoing, evolving situation. Updates will be sent out as more information becomes available,” it said.
