The Texas County Commission appointed Jerri Sue Crump of Raymondville to the Texas County Memorial Hospital board of trustees. The position has been vacant since February.
In early February, Steve Pierce, of Houston, resigned from the position with a little over a year remaining on his five-year term – days after the hospital dismissed its chief executive officer. Pierce cited “an increasing challenge to fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities as a member of the board with business and personal life demands” as his reason for resigning.
The county commission – consisting of Scott Long, presiding commissioner; John Casey and Robert Ross – then became responsible for appointing a trustee to complete the term. The commissioners received several recommendations from hospital leadership and conducted interviews before deciding on Crump.
Crump ran for the position in 2023, finishing second to Ross Richardson in a three- person race.
She has a nursing degree from Missouri State University. When she ran for the office, she had 32 years of health care experience, including emergency room director, medical-surgical director and direct patient care nurse.
Board members including Crump – whose term expires next year – are Dr. Jim Perry, Joleen Durham, Richardson and Jennifer Hugenot.
