On the strength of strong offensive showings, the Houston Middle School football teams swept Cabool in a pair of road games on Thursday.

In the first game of the double-header, the 7th-grade Tigers score 4 rushing touchdowns and topped the visiting Bulldogs 28-14.

Houston scored twice on runs by running back Ben Gubarev, and also had TD runs by fullback Brody Taylor and tight end Gaige Martin.

In the nightcap, the HMS 8th-graders routed the Bulldogs 49-0.

Quarterback Stryker Sloan and running back Tucker Venn scored 3 TDs apiece for Houston, while fullback Matt Wilson had 1. One of Venn’s TDs came on a pass from Sloan and one of Sloan’s scores came on a pass from Venn.

HMS defensive backs Mason Bartlett and Jackson Rust each had an interception in the contest.

The 7th-grade Tigers are now 1-2 on the season and the 8th-graders are 2-1.

The two teams host Liberty next Thursday (Oct. 3).
