Sales tax revenue in Houston and Texas County increased in September compared to last year, while Cabool experienced a decline in collections.
HOUSTON
A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $77,187.51 for the month of September. That’s up $1,304.55 from the same period a year ago.
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $80,438.09. That’s an increase of $3,311.99 from the same period last year.
Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $19,473 in the month of September. That’s up $483 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases totaled $16,997.79 for the month. That’s up $2,594.62 from the same period last year.
CABOOL
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $28,653.72. That’s a decrease of $3,336.42 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax for transportation needs totaled $14,326.80 in the month of September. That’s down $1,668.29 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases totaled $9,223.04 for the month. That’s up $1,322.40 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $13,977.54 for the month.
TEXAS COUNTY
For Texas County, merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled $109,920 for September, which represented a decrease of $494 on each from the same period a year ago.
The sales tax on online and out-of-state sales totaled $109,991.09 for the month. That was up $7,157.13 from the same month in 2023.
Revenue from a three-eighths sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $74,310.83, which was down $868.92 for the month.
