Paul Dean Hammon, Sr., 85, was born June 7, 1939, in Eunice, Missouri, the son of Norville Hammon and Ina (Bailey) Hammon and passed away Oct. 13, 2024, in his home in Houston, Missouri surrounded by many loving family members.
Paul was united into marriage to Gayle (Walkiewicz) Hammon Aug. 7, 1980. They were married for 44 years. During their years together, they lived in many different places and enjoyed traveling the United States together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Teresa Hammon; his son, Paul Hammon Jr.; and his three brothers, Marvin, Del and Carl Hammon. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Hammon; stepchildren, Nicole (Clint) Garrison, D.J. (Nicole) Walkiewicz, Jack (Barbara) Berg, Jim (Dede) Berg and Tammy Newman; grandchild, Christine West; step-grandchildren, Kyle (Izabelle) Garrison, Ashley Garrison (Rustin Branum), Zoe, Sophie and Nicholas Walkiewicz; his three sisters, Carol (Larry) Smith, Gloria Elvers and Joan (Jr.) Ayres; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul joined the United States Air Force Oct. 10, 1961, and served until Nov. 6, 1964. After he left the Air Force, he was a long-distance truck driver for many years. He also worked on offshore oil rigs and the North Slope in Alaska as well as in the oil fields in California.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being an outdoorsman, such as fishing, hunting, and prospecting and watching Western movies. He also loved his dog, Poppy, who never left his side. Paul will be very missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
A memorial service for Paul will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Evans Funeral Home in Houston with Brother Charles Horton officiating.
