Houston High School students participating in the 2024 Constitution Project competition held a mock exercise Tuesday morning.
Crime scene investigators from the program worked an accident scene with a criminal angle on Westwood Drive near Rutherford Park in Houston. Journalism students were on the scene to work on their reporting skills. Students investigated the crime and journalists gathered information and took photographs and video.
The activity was staged by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department. It serves as practice for upcoming regional competition.
There are three groups in which students participate in the project: CSI, journalism and trial advocacy.
Founded in Houston in 2011, the Constitution Project gives high school students a hands-on opportunity to investigate and report about a mock crime scene and eventually try “suspects” in a mock trial, all under the mentorship of local professionals in the fields of crime scene investigation, journalism and trial advocacy.
Houston High School was the state grand champion last year.
