A 21-year-old specialist at Fort Leonard Wood was charged Wednesday in the murder of a sergeant there, officials announced Thursday afternoon.
The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel charged Spc. Wooster Rancy with the 5th Engineer Battalion in the death of 23-year-old Sarah Roque on Oct. 20. He is charged with murder and obstructing justice under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Rancy is being held in pretrial confinement awaiting a preliminary hearing.
He is originally from North Miami, Florida, and serves as a combat engineer with the 509th Clearance Company, 5th Engineer Battalion. He joined the Army in 2022 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood.
Roque enlisted in 2020 and was stationed at the Pulaski County installation. She served as a mine dog handler and a member of the 5th Engineer Battalion. Roque is from Ligionier, Indiana.
Her body was found in a trash bin last week.
