The Houston High Schools girls basketball team started its 2024-2025 campaign with a road loss to Bunker at the Bunker Shootout Saturday, Nov. 23.

The team trailed by 11 points after one quarter of play and 20 points by half before losing 55-25.

“We have to pick up our aggressiveness,” said head coach Micah Lee. “We had some really good moments and moved the ball well, but also still have a lot to work on, especially with rebounding and defense.”

Bunker was led by junior Kinsey Barton – who scored 27 points.

Senior Lacey Cavaness had 9 points for the Lady Tigers, including two 3-pointers. Seniors Sophia Crites and Makinley Aaron added 7 and 3 points, respectively. Junior Gracyn McNiell scored 4 and freshman Isabella Cook added 2.

The Lady Tigers were solid from the free-throw line, going 4 for 7.

During a preseason jamboree Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Tiger Fieldhouse, the Lady Tigers played three individual quarters against both Thayer and Willow Springs. The team managed to win one of the quarters against Willow Springs.

The HHS girls squad (0-1) will play next in the 11th Annual Fordland Invitational, which begins Monday, Dec. 2.
