James Michael Gordon Credit: TEXAS COUNTY JAIL

A man accused of shooting and killing his brother at a business in 2023 will face a jury later this year.

According to court records, James Michael Gordon, 64, of Licking, will appear for jury trial Aug. 13-15 in Pulaski County on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. A pre-trial conference is planned for July 22.

In August 2023, Texas County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to Crow Creek Bar and Grill on Highway CC north of Licking to reports of a shooting. They arrived to find 58-year-old Christopher Gordon deceased.

According to law enforcement reports, when deputies arrived on the scene, the victim, was lying on the floor with two gunshot wounds. One gunshot was to the chest and the other was to the face.

The altercation, which was recorded by a security camera, showed the suspect and victim arguing. As the victim turned and started walking to the door to leave, the suspect followed and pushed the victim down, authorities said.

Employees of the bar separated the individuals, according to the report. The suspect got up, walked away and pulled a small handgun out of his pocket. The victim walked over to the suspect, pushed him down and leaned over to grab the suspect.

The suspect then shot the victim twice, the first in the left upper chest and the second in the head, killing him instantly, according to the report.

During interviews, it was revealed that the victim and suspect are brothers who had been engaged in an ongoing feud.

Gordon is free on $250,000 surety bond. He earlier entered a not guilty plea.
