The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

  • On Dec. 18, deputies were dispatched to a Highway 32 location near Plato regarding a report of an assault involving three minor-age girls.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 14-year-old victim, who said she had been hanging out at the Roby Community Center when she was jumped and assaulted by three other girls. The victim said she bent down to pick up her cell phone and felt people on top of her.

Officers observed cuts on her face and saw she had some hair pulled out during the fight. On Dec. 19, a deputy conducted several interviews at Plato High School regarding the incident. Investigation is ongoing.

  • Renee L. Herrin, 46, of 7585 Chestnut Ridge Road in Houston, was issued citations for driving while intoxicated and speeding after a traffic stop on Highway B at about 11 p.m. Dec. 1.

A deputy made the stop after observing a gray Cadillac CTS traveling at a high rate of speed. After making contact with the driver, Herrin, the officer observed signs of impairment and field sobriety tests were conducted. She was taken to jail for a 12-hour hold period.

  • At about 1:50 a.m. Jan. 2, ADT Security called to report that an alarm at the Raymondville Quick Stop store had been triggered.

At about 1:58 a.m., the owner of the business called to report that two men had kicked in the back door and could be seen inside via surveillance video.

A deputy arrived at the store at about 2:05 a.m. and made contact with the owner, who said he saw a white truck leave the area moments earlier. The officer observed fresh tire marks where the vehicle had been parked, as well as boxes of snack product nearby that had no frost on them despite frigid temperatures.

Just over $400 worth of items were reportedly stolen during the incident.

Investigation revealed that the truck belonged to a 17-year-old Houston boy. An officer made contact with him, and he reportedly admitted to committing the burglary and stealing the items. The county juvenile office was contacted.

  • A 33-year-old Houston woman reported on Jan. 26 that there was a gun at her Illinois Road residence, and she didn’t want it there because she was a felon.

The woman told an investigating deputy she had been given a Glock 43X 9-millimeter pistol by a relative. The officer observed the gun wrapped in a sweatshirt sitting in a mop bucket outside the residence, along with three ammo magazines.

The gun and magazines were taken into custody and placed in evidence for safekeeping.
