Texas County Health Department reported a spike in influenza cases in Texas County in the week ending Feb. 1.

It said there were 107 confirmed cases of influenza. For the season, the total is 174. Of those, 170 were Influenza A. Last week, some school districts in the county canceled classes due to illness.

It offered these tips for residents to stop the spread of germs:

  • Get an annual flu vaccine
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home, for at least 24 hours, until your symptoms are getting better overall and you have not had fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication)
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Wash your hands
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces
