The birth of a baby is one of the most beautiful moments anyone can ever experience.
A bundle of joy and potential, who instinctually clings to their parents for protection and sustenance. From the moment of conception, there is a God-given responsibility for parents to care for this tender life. It is one of the most wonderful responsibilities in the world. On the other hand, for such potential to be cut short before even being given the chance to live is one of the worst things I can imagine.
Before November of last year, the unborn were protected by Missouri law. However, November’s election changed that policy. Abortion is now legal and, sadly, protected in our state constitution. However, this doesn’t mean the fight to protect the lives of the unborn is over. In fact, it has just begun.
For this reason, I have filed Senate Joint Resolution 52. If approved by voters, this bill would modify the state constitution to give unborn babies the same protections enjoyed by the rest of Missourians. They would have the same securities, privileges and, most importantly, the same right to live with all of the protections of the law on their side. We must continue to fight for the right to life for the unborn, and I am happy to stand with my colleagues and lead the charge.
That’s it for now, but as always, it is a pleasure to serve you.
