Members of the Cabool City Council made a land sale decision and heard updates on city operations during a meeting Thursday, March 20.

BOARD REPORTS

  • Alderman Brad Roberts asked that the city provide services ahead of builders’ needs at new subdivisions.
  • Alderwoman Kate Ellison reported a swing is broken at the park. She asked if the city could look into acquiring a baby swing.
  • Alderman John Williams asked about cleanup at 616 Rogers Ave. He also stated that all employees, not just full-time, should be drug tested. A motion was passed to add all employees paid by the city to its drug testing list.
  • Alderman John Mark Hale brought up two issues at Roberts Park – a dropoff when persons pull into the parking lot and a water hydrant for ball fields not being installed. He stated it needs to be by the first or third baseline.

OTHER MATTERS

  • A sale of land near the entrance to the Piney River recreational area was denied. The council decided not to replace fencing at the ball fields, and to instead use a temporary fence during games.
  • Roberts questioned a $34,365 payment to Stewart Construction for manhole covers. Ron Scheets, administrator, explained the payment was for manholes, covers and pipe for Boroughs Subdivision.
  • The council approved the same YMCA swimming pool agreement as last year, with the exceptions being to use chemicals until they are gone and to set a specific closing date for the pool.
  • The city had a broken pole that caused a fire west of Zimmerman Avenue on March 14. The pole has been replaced.
  • Midland Ag is now a Bad Boy Tractor and Lawn Equipment dealer. They are a full-service dealer and will offer warranty coverage.
  • Spring Clean Up is Monday, April 14 to Friday, April 18.
  • A new police department car light bar will cost between $1,500 and $2,000. Funds will come from a sales tax dedicated to the police and fire departments.
  • Issues with utility bills are being addressed to have them delivered legibly in a timely manner.

The next regular meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 21 at city hall.
