It has been three weeks since Ms. Kathy Love wrote an open letter to Representative Jason Smith with questions regarding our district.

I, probably like many others, have been waiting for a reply. I was hoping for some explanation, some accountability, some plan, but nothing.

It appears that Mr. Smith doesn’t feel accountable to the voters. Josh Hawley could have responded as well since he represents the same district.

I believe that Smith, Hawley and others are elected by the “1xers”. These people believe that “1x” at the top of the ballot is the best choice. It is easier, and far less responsible, than researching and selecting the most qualified candidate for the position. It also indicates that they believe all candidates of a particular party are the best candidates, they are not always.

It also gives the Smiths and Hawleys of the world a “blank check” to do as they wish rather than be accountable for their actions, or inactions.

They ride the coat tails of good men (Bennie Cook or Mike Kehoe) rather than on their accomplishments and results.

For the “1xers,” please take into account Smith’s non response, lack of accountability and respect for the people he represents the next time he is up for re-election.

  1. When those who inherited a propensity to mark a ballot for one party simply because their parents did or they love the wild rhetoric of a presidential candidate reap the horror this sort of ignorant voting will cut into their lifestyle, they will all cry out. I have no sympathy for those who believe the rich care about the working class in direct opposition to all evidence. You got what you wanted. Saying goodbye to the social programs that have aided this district for years might be a wake-up call.

  2. So what was in the letter? How am I supposed to feel about Jason Smith when I don’t know if the letter was about a serious matter or about something frivolous? If the point of this letter was to make Smith see less likeable, then it has a long way to go. If I’m expected to take this matter and run to the polls and vote for a democrat, forget it. Democrats in my opinion are right now about 200 miles deep in a dark hole. Maybe David Hogg, the Joseph Goebbels look-alike, should come her to try and convince voters otherwise.

  3. There are six states that still allow straight-ticket voting. Missouri is not one of those states. If the writer of the above letter sees a straight ticket option on his/her ballot, then maybe Texas County needs to come into compliance. To rant on about straight-ticket or “1x” voting is just plain silly when it is no longer an option.
