At the 2025 South Central Association conference championships Monday at Mountain Grove, the Houston High School girls track and field team took second and the boys placed fifth.
The top-8 finishers in each event scored points, with the winner making First-Team All-SCA, runners-up making the Second Team and third-place finishers receiving Honorable Mention.
The Lady Tigers scored 181 points, while the host team from Mountain Grove scored 193.5 to finish first and Salem scored 113 to place third.
Mountain Grove’s boys also won, scoring 184.5 points, while Salem was second with 117 and Liberty placed third with 114. Houston’s boys scored 85 points.
HHS athletes had several high finishes in the meet. The Lady Tigers posted 6 individual victories and the Tigers had 1. Junior Kayla Wagner took first and set a school record in the triple jump.
GIRLS
- 100-meter dash: Adyson Dailing, 2nd, 13.23; Marie Palmer, 5th, 14.03 (15 runners).
- 200-meter dash: Kayla Wagner, 2nd, 27.62 (16 runners).
- 400-meter dash: Kayla Wagner, 2nd, 1:03.96 (9 runners).
- 800-meter run: Kristen Ely, 1st, 2:35.73 (7 runners).
- 1,600-meter run: Kristen Ely, 1st, 5:44.94 (6 runners).
- 3,200-meter run: Kristen Ely, 3rd, 13:27.81 (7 runners).
“Kristen almost pulled off a distance event sweep, but fell a little short in the 3,200,” said HHS head coach Mike Tottingham. “All conference in the 1,600 and 800 is still an awesome night.”
- 300-meter hurdles: Adyson Dailing, 1st, 48.55 (7 runners).
Dailing was a favorite in the 100-meter hurdles, too, but fell and finished 6th.
“She jumped right up and finished,” Tottingham said, “so I was super proud of her toughness. No one is tougher on Adyson than Adyson herself, and she did a great job rebounding and having a good track meet.”
- High jump: Kayla Wagner, T2, 1.37m (9 jumpers).
- Long jump: Summer Seago, 2nd, 4.7m; Adyson Dailing, 3rd, 4.57m (15 jumpers).
- Triple jump: Kayla Wagner, 1st, 10.62m (11 jumpers). Wagner had three jumps over 10 meters and destroyed her own previous school record of 9.97 meters.
- Pole vault: Summer Seago: 1st, 2.36m (9 vaulters).
- Discus: Kynlee Weaver, 4th, 23.04m (11 throwers).
- Javelin: Kynlee Weaver, 1st, 34.19m; Summer Seago, 3rd, 31.14m (9 throwers).
- Shot put: Summer Seago, 3rd, 9.32m; Kynlee Weaver, 4th, 9.12m (12 throwers).
Seago scored a whopping 30 points at the meet.
BOYS
- 800-meter run: Dillon Shelton, 3rd, 2:15.05 (10 runners).
- 1,600-meter run: Jack Sawyer, 5th, 4:55.89 (11 runners)
- 4X200 relay, 4th, 1:39.95 (8 teams).
- 4X400 relay, 4th, 3:58.59 (6 teams).
- 4X800 relay, 2nd, 9:12.29 (7 teams).
- Long jump: Bryson Jordan, 3rd, 6.02m (14 jumpers).
- Triple jump: Bryson Jordan, 3rd, 12.4m (13 jumpers).
- Discus: Brody Adksion, 3rd, 40.06m; Devin Shelton, 5th, 36.4m (15 throwers).
- Javelin: Mason Dodson, 1st, 44.88m (14 throwers).
- Shot put: Maleki Morgan, 2nd, 13.77m; Mason Dodson, 5th, 11.76m (15 throwers).
“Our boys have come a long way this season and we had several very good finishes at the SCA meet,” Tottingham said. “Field events have carried us on the boys side and this meet was no exception.”
The two HHS squads will compete this Saturday (May 10) at the 13-team Class 3 District 5 Championships meet at Cuba.
“We have several athletes on the girls and boys sides that have a very good chance of making it past districts,” Tottingham said, “and I can’t be more proud of how my entire team has competed this year.”
