Chapter president Faye Wiersema opened the meeting followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Highlights from the business meeting were reports from the secretary and treasurer, plus a reminder to pay dues.
A state meeting was held April 25 and 26. There was a special recognition of Mary Stottlemeyer for her longtime commitment to Delta Kappa Gamma. Vivian Alsup was recognized for her 60-year membership and Jeannie Beltz for her 40-year membership. Faye Wiersema and Suzette Litwiller represented the chapter at the meeting. Mary Jane Lybyer presented the scholarship winners for this year. They are Jaden Wilkerson from Houston and Emma Smith from Ava. Both of these young ladies will be working toward a degree in education and will each receive $750.
In other business, the chapter voted to give new teachers, in each of the represented towns, new pens. New members will be presented in the July meeting and voted on at the September meeting.
Elaine Campbell announced that the chapter has donated over 4,000 books to the “Born to Read” program at Texas County Health Department – which are given to new mothers.
After the business meeting, Marla Burgess gave a devotion on the Joy of Flowers followed by the main speaker Judy Rhine, of Mountain View Gardening Club. Judy, who is a Master Gardener, presented a program on the Federation of Gardening. The goals are to teach practical information for everyone, working with the community and school by weeding and planting. She also described the importance of pollinators in the natural resources of the earth.
As always, wonderful conversation and good food from Pizza Americana were enjoyed by all who attended.
