Members of the Texas County Commission received an update on energy conservation efforts in county buildings and food service at the county jail on Sept. 5.

Terry Turner with Consolidated Correctional Food Service met commissioners to discuss its operations for the jail. Commissioners also heard that Doris Altom was resigning in the kitchen effective Sept. 13.

In other matters, members:

—Heard Jim Johnson and Ben Trout II with EPM, an energy consultant, and Fred Malicoat with Malicoat-Winslow Engineers PC, give an update on a project designed to reduce energy costs for the county.

—Met with Terri Able related to the county’s certification as a “Missouri Certified Work Ready Community.” The initiative is a voluntary effort to align workforce and education to meet the economic needs of the state and local communities. A former ceremony was Friday.

—Waived penalties for a taxpayer, Paul Whitter, for 2017, but not 2016.

—Authorized seeking a State Emergency Management Administration grant. Clinton Schwart, emergency management director, meet with the commission.

—Signed a Chemical Emergency Preparedness Grant application. Jason Cook of the Local Emergency Preparedness Committee met with the commission.
