A Houston woman was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in an accident about two miles north of Cabool on U.S. 63.

Cpl. Stacy Crewse said a southbound 2001 Ford Explorer driven by a 78-year-old woman experienced tire failure, overturned and ran off the roadway at about 4:30 p.m.

The woman, who was not identified by the patrol, was flown from the scene near U.S. 63 and Orchard Road to Cox South in Springfield. The highway was closed for a time as first responders prepared for the helicopter landing.

She was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Assisting at the scene were Tprs. Jason Sentman and Nathan Poynter, as well as the Cabool Fire Department. The vehicle was totaled.
