An animal abuse scene uncovered in June at Cabool has led to seven charges of animal neglect.
The Texas County prosecutor’s office filed charges Monday against Julie R. Sparks of Clinton, who was born in 1979.
The Texas County Sheriff’s Department investigated the scene after a report from Ozarks Pet Rescue, which went to a residence and found four dead puppies in a cage outside a motor home, another three deceased inside the motor home and one alive in the residence. The latter, according to a witness, had been eating the dead puppies.
The following day, via telephone, Sparks told a deputy she left the residence May 8 to take care of her mother, who had suffered a heart attack. She said someone else was supposed to care for the animals.
All charges are misdemeanors.
