In the squad’s first game of the 2025 season, the Houston High School junior varsity football team downed Springfield Catholic 54-8 Monday night at Tiger Stadium.
In the first half, sophomore MJ Morgan scored two rushing touchdowns and freshman Styker Sloan scored one, with Sloan, Morgan and junior Carter Allen all running for 2-point conversions.
On defense, Sloan had an interception, sophomore lineman Bryce Ramos forced a fumble and sophomore linebacker Leland Robinson recorded a fumble recovery.
Houston was ahead 24-8 at halftime.
The Tigers added 30 more points after the break.
Sloan returned an interception for one TD and rushed for another, while freshman Matt Wilson and sophomore Quentin Moritz each ran for a score. Moritz also tacked on a pair of 2-point conversions and Sloan ran for one.
Sloan and freshman Bryson Goetz each recovered a fumble.
The Junior Tigers (1-0) host Salem next Monday (Sept. 15).
