The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.

The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

  • On Sept. 5, a 29-year-old Mountain Grove woman reported that her 44-year-old former boyfriend had tried to burn down her residence at a Country Aire Lane trailer park.

An investigating deputy observed a liquid substance poured on the porch. The woman told the officer the man had stolen her phone and thrown it down, damaging its screen.

No charges resulted in the case.

  • On Sept. 10, a deputy responded to a report of a domestic assault at a Route 17 residence in Houston.

The officer made contact with a 17-year-old girl there who said her 26-year-old brother had shoved her to the ground during a dispute over the keys to her mother’s car.

The brother told the officer his sister had caused the car’s door to hit him and then hit him with her elbow, and he had pushed her away in response.

The officer spoke to the parents, who said they hadn’t seen any of the incident. The brother and sister were advised of the 12-hour rule.

  • On Sept. 20, a deputy was dispatched to Mercy Hospital in Mountain View regarding a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with a 37-year-old Eunice man who said his sister had purchased a .22 caliber rifle for his nephew, and the nephew had asked for instructions on how to load it. The man said that when he took the gun from his nephew, he accidentally shot himself in the foot.

The man was already on probation for unlawful possession of a firearm and was not eligible to use the rifle. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.

  • On Aug. 1, a deputy was dispatched regarding a report of a burglary at a Route 32 residence at Licking.

The officer made contact with a 71-year-old man there who said he had gone outside at about 7 a.m. to check on his chickens and noticed the door to his shop building was slightly open. He said he entered the shop and noticed that numerous tools and other items with a total value of $5,453 had been stolen.

There are no suspects.
