A Houston woman was recognized last week by the Missouri Library Association with its Virginia G. Young Outstanding Service Award for her exemplary service to the Texas County Library system.

Janet Fraley won the award for her more than two decades of commitment as a Texas County Library trustee. The system has branches at Houston, Cabool, Licking and Summersville.

She is the treasurer of the library board.

“Her dedication over the years to ensuring the four library branches have what they need has been incredible,” according to her nomination. “The amount of volunteer hours she puts in is immeasurable.”

She played a key role with others in a nearly two-year construction project for a new county library on First Street in Houston.

She accepted the award during a meeting in Chesterfield. She was nominated by Texas County Library Director Louise Beasley and Brad Gentry, secretary of the Texas County Library Foundation board.

The award recognizes an individual trustee for service to libraries in Missouri. Young served on the Daniel Boone Regional Library in Columbia for 50 years.
