The Texas County Emergency Response Team, also known as TCERT, announced a food drive Thursday, Oct. 30 to support food pantries across the county during the government shutdown.

The team will come to homes and businesses across the county to pick up food donations and bring them to local pantries.

This crisis is part of the TCERT mandate to help people across the county, said organizers. With the recent government shutdown, funding for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) programs has been drastically reduced.

Many families will have no or reduced support from SNAP this month, which will put additional strain on food pantries. With food pantries across the county already being stretched thin, they desperately need the community’s support, said the team.

If you are willing to assist with food donations and would like to schedule a pickup, the team can be reached at 417-670-2300. Leave a message with your name and address for pickup of food. You can leave the food at the end of your driveway, and one of the team members can pick it up.

All help and support is appreciated.
