This entry in the series is dedicated to the amazingly scrumptious cinnamon rolls that are frequently produced and sold at The Corner store in downtown Houston.
In the spirit of “Weird Al” Yankovic, it’s a song I wrote with lyrics modified from Barry Manilow’s No. 1 hit from 1976, “I Write the Songs,” and the melody is, of course, the same.
I Bake the Rolls
I’ve been a chef forever
And I baked the very first rolls
I put the flour and ingredients together
I’m a pastry chef, and I bake the rolls
I bake the rolls that make the whole world eat
I bake the rolls with lots of secret things
I bake the rolls that make the young girls smile
I bake the rolls, I bake the rolls
My rolls lie deep within you
And they’ve got their own place in your soul
Now when I look straight into the oven
I’m hungry again, even though I just downed a roll
I bake the rolls that make the whole world eat
I bake the rolls with lots of secret things
I bake the rolls that make the young girls smile
I bake the rolls, I bake the rolls
Oh, my rolls can make you happy
And get your stomach to take a chance
And I baked some rockin’ rolls for you to munch
Rolls that fill your gut, well, that’s a real fine kind of lunch
It’s from me, it’s for you
It’s for you, eat it please
It’s a worldwide baking spree
I bake the rolls that make the whole world eat
I bake the rolls with lots of secret things
I bake the rolls that make the young girls smile
I bake the rolls, I bake the rolls
I bake the rolls that make the whole world eat
I bake the rolls with lots of secret things
I bake the rolls that make the young girls smile
I bake the rolls, I bake the rolls
I’m a pastry chef, and I bake the rolls.
I think Weird Al would be proud.
