State Rep. Bennie Cook and Sen. Brad Hudson recently hosted the fifth annual Capitol Choir Christmas performance at the Missouri State Capitol, welcoming more than 530 students and staff from 15 schools across south-central Missouri to celebrate the holiday season through music.

The annual event brought together student choirs from across the region, filling the Capitol with Christmas music and highlighting the importance of arts education. Participating schools included Salem, Licking, Houston, Cabool, Rolla, St. James, Waynesville, Liberty, West Plains, Howell Valley, Ava, Gainesville, Mountain Grove, Hartville and Thayer.

“We were grateful for every school, every student and every person who took the time to be part of this event,” Cook said. “When you see more than 530 students and staff walk into the Capitol and fill it with Christmas music, it reminds you why these traditions matter and why we work so hard to bring them together. These students worked hard, and their talent and dedication showed.”

Cook also thanked the legislators who helped sponsor and host the event.

“I want to thank Senators Justin Brown and Jason Bean, and Representatives Tara Peters, John Hewkin, Bill Hardwick, Don Mayhew, Melissa Schmidt, Lisa Durnell, Keith Elliott and Matt Overcast for helping make this year’s performance possible,” Cook said.

Senator Hudson stated, “I’m thankful that these talented young people took the time to serenade everyone in the building this week with Christmas classics, and it was an honor helping host them. I look forward to this event every year and can’t wait until they visit again.”

Now in its fifth year, the Capitol Choir Christmas Performance has become a highly anticipated holiday tradition at the Missouri State Capitol, bringing together students, educators, families and communities from across the state.
