A local woman is in jail and charged with a felony after a Houston Police Department investigation regarding counterfeit money being passed at a Houston business on Nov. 16.
Amber R. Henderson, 28, of Wilson Street in Raymondville is charged with forgery (a class D felony).
The officer responded to McDonald’s and spoke to a woman representing the restaurant who said Henderson had attempted to use a counterfeit $50 bill. The woman reportedly said the bill had the word “copy” stamped in a left side corner and she immediately recognized it was fake and confronted Henderson.
Henderson then left and her order was canceled.
The woman then told the officer she kept the fake bill, and a man came inside and tried to take responsibility for it. The man then left and both he and Henderson left in a vehicle.
The officer reported viewing surveillance video and recognizing Henderson and the man, and confirmed that they were each in jail on unrelated charges. Henderson was subsequently interviewed and reportedly admitted she knew the bill was fake but tried using it anyway. The man was also questioned and said he had advised Henderson not to use the bill.
Henderson was arrested Dec. 12 and taken to the Texas County Jail. Cash-only bond in the case is set at $2,000.
