As the year comes to a close, I reflect on the successes the Texas County Library had in 2025.

Not only (among other things) did we complete another annual Summer Reading Program for the kids, but we completed construction on the new Houston location and moved in. I appreciate the many patrons that have come in and expressed how much they love the new building and how wonderful it is for our community. To complete the year, we have added Samuel Antle to our team in Houston. Samuel is so excited to be working in the library as it has been a goal of his for a while. He will be working on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays mostly at the circulation desk. Please welcome Samuel the next time you are in.

For the month of January, we plan to have our book sale open in the old library building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fill a Texas County Library bag for $10 or $1 per book. Cash or check only please. Grab some books while you can as we will be putting the building up for sale soon.

Thanks to a kind donation, we have added a puzzle activity for all ages. Come relax and unwind with our community jigsaw puzzle. The puzzle board is set up and ready for your contribution. Work on it as long or little as you like.

In Cabool, our copier/printer is broken. Thank you for your patience while we wait for the new machine to arrive sometime mid-January. We apologize for the inconvenience but feel free to use one of our other branches in Houston, Licking or Summersville for your printer/copier needs.

All Texas County Library branches will close at 1 p.m. Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, will be closed on Christmas Day and open on Dec. 26. We will close at 1 p.m. also on New Year’s Eve and close all day on New Year’s Day, but will reopen on Friday, Jan. 2. We wish everyone safe, happy and healthy holidays.

One of the new features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Call or come by the Houston circulation desk for information at 417-976-2258.

Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friends of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.

Story times for children are at all Texas County branches. Times and days are listed on our website or call your local branch for details.
